The Texas Southern was up 31-27 at the half but couldn’t hold on as they fell 69-51 to Alcorn State on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers ( 3-12 Overall, 2-3 SWAC) were paced by Nya Harmon who registered 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Taniya Lawson added 10 points, respectively.
Alcorn State (4-11, 2-2) was led offensively by Zy’Nyia White. Destiny Brown and Tyginae Wright added 16 and 11 points.
The Lady Braves led 16-10 after one quarter. Greta Galvan opened the second quarter with a tre, then the Lady Braves responded with a layup and a free throw as Alcorn led, 19-12. The Tigers went on a 16-0 run capped by a jumper by Galban to take a 29-19 lead with under two minutes remaining in the second.
Alcorn cut the deficit with an 8-2 run to close out the half trailing 31-27.
The Tigers were limited to 4-of-12 shooting from the field in the third to Alcorn’s 10-of-15 as the Braves outscored TSU, 27-12. TSU couldn’t recover down the stretch as a low scoring fourth quarter proved costly.
